The concept of a band began innocently in the 1980’s.  Todd Seabury-Kolod, an early childhood teacher with the St. Paul Public Schools, began making personalized cassette recordings for children in his classes.  The kids were experiencing separation fears.  Seabury-Kolod covered tunes with just an acoustic guitar where the children’s names were featured.  The music helped the kids feel more comfortable in the classroom.  Seabury-Kolod carried on this tradition for years.

Fast forward, now, to around 2001.  Seabury-Kolod, as a parent educator, started meeting some dads in his parenting groups who were musicians.  Casual conversations led to the formation of a not-for-profit band with proceeds going to the Rondo ECFE Parent Advisory Council.  Robert Lipscomb on keyboard, Michael Carvale on bass and Mike Pretel on drums helped to form the nucleus of the band.  Anne Zielske (vocals & flute) was in another class at Rondo ECFE and was also recruited by the band.  John Richardson (guitar & vocals) was completing his student teaching at the program and rounded out the lineup.  The band used a name that Seabury-Kolod was using for his storytelling group, The Rondo ECFE Not Ready For Naptime Players.  Later, it was discovered that another kids musician, Justin Roberts, was using the same name.  To avoid confusion, The Daddy-Doo Band was formed.  Daddy-Doo was Seabury-Kolod’s nickname, coined by his son, Joel, who was a preschooler at the time.

The Daddy-Doo Band released its first CD in 2003: “Daddy-Doo.”  In 2005, Ben Woolman, another Rondo ECFE parent joined the band on finger-style guitar.
